Men with erectile dysfunction have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis. Men that are younger than 50 have an increased risk of developing heart disease if they already have erectile dysfunction.
The link between heart disease and erectile dysfunction has been found to be dysfunction in the inner lining of the blood vessels, known an as the endothelium. When inadequate blood flow is supplied to the heart this will in turn reduce the blood flow to the penis aiding in the development of atherosclerosis.
